Grady County is located in central Oklahoma, with Chickasha serving as the county seat. The county’s court system operates within the Sixth Judicial District and processes thousands of legal matters each year — from felony criminal cases and civil lawsuits to family law disputes and probate proceedings. The Grady County Court Clerk’s Office serves as the primary custodian for District Court records, handling filings for civil, criminal, small claims, divorce, paternity, child support, protective orders, probate, guardianship, adoption, juvenile, and traffic cases. Several municipal courts throughout the county also maintain records related to local ordinance violations and traffic offenses.
Oklahoma provides several pathways for locating court case information, including in-person visits to clerk offices, online case search databases, and written requests submitted by mail. The Oklahoma State Courts Network (OSCN) and the On Demand Court Records (ODCR) portal both offer electronic access to case docket information from participating Oklahoma district courts. OklahomaCourts.us may also assist in locating publicly available court case information statewide. These resources supplement what is available directly from the Grady County Court Clerk and other local record custodians.

Are Court Records Public in Grady County?
Most court records in Grady County are accessible to the public under the Oklahoma Open Records Act (51 O.S. § 24A.1 et seq.). This law ensures the public’s right to inspect and obtain copies of government records, including court records, during regular business hours.
Under 51 O.S. § 24A.30, all court records are subject to the Open Records Act unless a specific statute designates them as confidential. When a court seals records, it must issue a written order that identifies the specific legal authority, is narrowly tailored so only the confidential portions are sealed, and keeps the remainder of the record open to the public.
Categories of Grady County court records that are restricted or confidential include:
- Juvenile records — Proceedings involving minors are generally closed to public access under Oklahoma law.
- Adoption records — All adoption case files are sealed and not available for public inspection.
- Sealed records — Any record sealed by court order pursuant to 51 O.S. § 24A.30 is removed from public access.
- Sensitive personal information — Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, and similar identifiers may be redacted from publicly available filings.
- Certain victim information — Records identifying victims in specific case types may be restricted.
Records that remain publicly accessible include most civil case filings, non-sealed criminal case records, probate proceedings, small claims cases, and domestic relations filings (though certain portions of family cases may be restricted).
